On this guided hotel-to-hotel ski tour along the northern section of the Troll Trail, from Høvringen to Venabygdsfjellet, we glide through the magnificent and varied mountain landscapes of Rondane National Park. After long days on skis, the reward awaits: arriving at our hotel or lodge for the night, warming up, relaxing and enjoying a well-earned dinner. We spend two nights at each location, giving us time to explore the different areas along the way.
The Troll Trail is a classic long-distance cross-country ski route stretching from Høvringen in the north to Lillehammer in the south. On this tour, we ski the northern and most spectacular section of the trail. The route winds through the majestic high-mountain landscape around Rondane National Park before continuing south, where the terrain gradually opens into the gentler, more welcoming hills and mountains around Mysuseter and Venabu.
Along the way, we ski beside frozen lakes, cross vast mountain plateaus and enter peaceful, sheltered forests, where the pace naturally slows and the senses sharpen. Each stage brings new impressions and a wonderful sense of being far removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
We ski both on and off groomed trails. We therefore recommend skis that are narrow enough to fit into prepared cross-country tracks, while still offering sufficient width and flotation for the sections where we break our own trail. If you book rental skis for the tour, you will receive a pair with partial steel edges and fixed skins in the grip zone, so you will not need to worry about waxing your skis along the way.
To participate in this tour, you should have at least a couple of years’ experience of cross-country skiing on prepared tracks, be able to brake and control your speed safely, and be in good physical condition.
Participants on this tour may come from different countries, so English will most likely be the common language.

The guide will plan a suitable day tour in the area based on the weather, snow conditions and the ability of the group.
Day 5 – Mysuseter to Venabygdsfjellet (Wednesday)
Today we have a spectacular but challenging day ahead of us as we leave Mysuseter and head into the high mountains. We begin by skiing along the shore of Lake Furusjøen before starting the climb towards the mountain plateau.
Here we encounter the most demanding section of the tour: a long stretch without groomed tracks. For this reason, this tour is suitable only for skiers with sufficient experience and a good level of physical fitness.
After approximately 15 km of skiing without prepared tracks, we reach the groomed trail network at Venabygdsfjellet, where we can once again let our skis glide along prepared tracks. During the final part of the day, the route winds through small hills and valleys before finishing with an enjoyable descent to our accommodation at Venabygdsfjellet.
Please note: If the guide considers this stage too challenging for you, you may be asked to arrange transport to the accommodation at your own expense.
Ascent: 565 m
Descent: 554 m
Distance: 33.5 km
Duration: 8–9 hours
Day 6 – Day Tour at Venabygdsfjellet (Thursday)
The guide will plan a suitable day tour in the area based on the weather, snow conditions and the ability of the group.
Day 7 – Venabygdsfjellet and Transfer to Høvringen (Friday)
The guide will plan a suitable day tour in the Venabygdsfjellet area based on the weather, snow conditions and the ability of the group.
In the afternoon, we transfer back to Høvringen, where we enjoy a farewell dinner together.
Day 8 – Departure (Saturday)
Today is departure day, and the tour ends after breakfast. A transfer bus is available directly from Høvringen to Oslo Airport Gardermoen.
PLEASE NOTE: Our aim is to complete the tour as described above. However, the guide may adjust the programme depending on weather and snow conditions, safety considerations and the ability of the group.
If any participants do not have the skiing skills and/or physical fitness required to complete a particular stage, taxi transfers are available between most of the accommodation locations at the participant’s own expense. At any point during the tour, the guide may require participants who do not meet the necessary requirements to take a taxi to the next accommodation.
Accommodation and Meals
During the tour, we stay in hotels, mountain lodges and hostels, spending two nights at each location so that we have time to explore the different areas we pass through. The standard of accommodation and meals varies from comfortable, high-quality establishments to simpler mountain accommodation with shared toilets and bathrooms.
All meals are included, with the exception of snacks and drinks.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have any special dietary requirements, please contact us before booking so that we can confirm whether your requirements can be accommodated.
Luggage
All luggage is carried in your own backpack during the travelling stages. It is therefore important to pack lightly, while bearing in mind that travelling in the mountains in winter requires appropriate equipment and warm clothing. Everything you need during the tour must fit into your backpack, making both weight and functionality important for your comfort.
As we spend two nights in each mountain village, there are only three days during the tour when you need to carry all your luggage while skiing.
You can leave an additional bag at the hotel in Høvringen if you would like to bring more with you to Norway than you wish to carry during the ski tour.
A detailed packing list will be sent to all participants well in advance of departure, and we are happy to advise you on equipment if needed.
